Visual Communications in a Nutshell

According to Killer Visual Strategies, visual communication can be defined as the practice of graphically representing information to efficiently create meaning. Visual communications can be introduced in many forms such as infographics, motion graphics, interactive forms, and more. 

From a viewer's side, visual communications are essential because it can the graphics, shapes, and colors presented can make the viewer pay closer attention to the information or the idea being presented. People react to different visual content in different ways and that's why, as viewers, we take a good look at the visuals presented. 

Colors can work as an important factor in visual communication. In communication in general different colors has different meanings. For example, the color red can present love, energy, sales, or passion. Blue can present trust, smart, faith, or power. Black can present rich, power, mystery, or evil. A man walking in a mall with his family might notices that a shop is having a sale from the red poster, and or can relate the sale with the color red. 

So, let's talk about some well-known logo's 

FC Barcelona logo has been always a logo that shares more meaning and details than only being a logo for a football club. According to FC Barcelona website, the logo contains the St. George's Cross, representing the patron saint of Catalonia and which is also present in the coat of arms of the city of Barcelona. On the top right, we can see lines in both red and yellow which present the Catalan Flag. On the bottom, we see the colors of the club itself which are blue and red. And finally, there is a ball in the middle of the club colors that presents FC Barcelona playing style. FC Barcelona is well known for their amazing tike-taka playing style where they play on passing the ball and the club made sure to present their playing style in their logo. 

Another example of a visual logo with a deep meaning can be Drake's "OVO" logo, where the world "OVO" stands for "October's Very Own" and that's because Drake himself is born in October. But when taking a closer look, the world "OVO" looks like an owl which is what the Drake brand is built upon. OVO brand is well-known for having that clean simple owl that can make it visually appealing to the audience. And since the brand is built around October, they mostly offer heavy winter clothes because that's when the weather starts to turn cold.

Finally, the NBA logo, according to logomyway,  the man dribbling the ball in the logo itself is Jerry West. West is a Lakers basketball player that inspired the logo. It's a dynamic image that presents and captures the nature of the sport of basketball. The color scheme of the logo which is red, white, and blue helped the NBA viewers to establish the league as America's choice for professional basketball since it has the same colors as the American flag.
